As a teacher I feel like I will let my students use Wikipedia to a certain degree. I feel like this is a great site to do class discussions and open discussions on. To allow studnets to conduct their own opinions on their research helps them open up and explain their thoughts which as a teacher helps me allaberate on thier personal ideas. I think as far as writing essays this isn't a site that should be used for a work sited. Although it is great to create pro an con discussions exct. Teachers have to be careful that their students are learning facts and not opinions. Which is why I feel that classroom discusions allow me as a teacher to make a call on the information and help research facts and explain the information better.

I choose to valiadate the website on Martin Luther King the website URL is: http://www.martinlutherking.org/. I think this site will be good to validate because it is a .org which means this is an organization.
Domain name/extension- There isn't an actual domain name or extension. It siply says: Attention Students: Try our MLK Pop Quiz, at the top of the web page. This automatically shows the lower standard of the site.
Author/Authority- There isn't one set author listed, in fact no ones name is put down on the web page to reffer the information or creator to.
Purpose of the site- This seemingly innocent web site address calls for the abolition of Martin Luther King Day and promotes White Pride. Content is inappropriate for all ages.
Date of page creation/updates- There isn't a set date on the development of the website. There really aren't even dates to back up the infromation posted in the "facts" page.

Sometimes the information on the internet may not always be facts. Majority of the time information provided is a persons opinion about a certain topic or fact alone. I think after reviewing the internet sites it is obivous through the type of language and set up of a web page as to rather or not it is lagit.

One new thing I learned about SmartBoards from my peers is the actual benefit that smartboards really have in a classroom. I think these boards may tend to be priced a little high but in the future in a classroom they tend to pay off. I also think it helps bring in more technological skills which I noticed from the activities we covered.

White boards help teachers meet the ISTE NETS throuhg the fact that it is involving a different tool for learning in the classroom. The standard that relates to this is the standard: 2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. I think this would be good to use when I teach to keep students interested and focused on new technology.

After doing the reading and reviewing the smart board the question that remains is that are smart boards worth the inverstment. Although the smart board can be expensive, I find it a very unique and good investment. It is important in classrooms that all students are able to see the board and clearly read what the teacher is teaching. Sometimes students are unable to view or make out what it is the teacher is writing. With smart boards the letters and writting are very clear and visiable to all students. With that being said if teachers find ways to use the board they will get the moneys worth out of it. Also students will engage in the new "toy". There are many different uses for it which allows the teacher to mix up the lessons which is nice to.

Today in class we review articles about whiteboards and how they help students. One way I found that these whiteboards help students is that whiteboards support many different learning styles. To me this is important because not all students learn the same so if teachers are able to make adjustments through a whiteboard this is great. Also whiteboards have been said to successfully help students employed in hearing and visually impaired learning environments. This mean they are accessable for special and regular learning students.

As students use web quest many skills are learned. First off the internet allows students to process information on several different topics. When students obtain information from a site like web quest they are able to gather information, process it, and analyze it. Then students can look back and relate it to information taught from a book, and collaborate with other students in discussions. The 21st century skills that relate to an assignment such as this one allows students to Work Independently. When students work independently through assignments sometimes they learn from mistakes and they have time to correct and over see their own and others mistakes. It also helps monitor, define, prioritize and complete tasks without direct oversight.

What ISTE-NETS-T does creating a WebQuest help you meet as a future educator?
As far as the ISTE NETS standards I feel like there are a few different ones that meet it for a future educator. Standard two meets the webquest for teachers because it allows students to Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments. Standard B.) under leverl to helps to develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. To me this is an exact assignment that meets a standard to help future teachers with technology in the classroom. In class we continued to build our Webquest pages as well.

Today in class we discuessed the next assignment which is webquest. After reviewing some different topics to revise I decided to correct a webquest on find the right career for highschoolers.I felt that this would be an assignment that related to my major which is Family Consumer Science. Students enjoy figuring things out sometimes, or some what getting an idea. High school is a tough time of decissions on colleges, and thinking ahead. So assignments as the one I would be providing I find engaging. The changes I would make would be to maybe provide more examples through out the directions. I also would maybe add more visual images. Happy April fools day.

Today in class we got in groups to discuss WebQuest. As the Affiliator: To you, the best learning activities are those in which students learn to work together. WebQuests that force collaboration and create a need for discussion and consensus are the best in your view. If a WebQuest could be done by a student working alone, it leaves you cold. After discussing as a group the 5 different webpage assignemnets I decided that the unraveling the undergrouprailroad would be the most educational research project. Although as a group we all decided that the we all scream for ice cream project is by far the funner and cuter project that deals with reasearch. None of the projects really involved all four of the different view poimts. This assignment related to the ISTE nets as far as number 2:
Communication and Collaboration
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students:
a. interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media.
b. communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats.
This is a good classroom activity I would consider in the future because it is fun, educational, and helps involve technology while learning. I feel that students would engage in this activity and grow from it.

In class today we responded to the digital stories the eight indians made.I thiknk this is a neat way to allow children to use their imagination with technology. Number six in the ISTE nets meet the standards of this project.
6. Technology Operations and Concepts
Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Students:
a. understand and use technology systems.
b. select and use applications effectively and productively.
c. troubleshoot systems and applications.
d. transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies
I would use this in my classroom maybe after an interesting story we discussed and have children add their own twist which meets the standards above.

Today in class we learned how creating a minibiography in a social network site helps students develop competencies in the Partnership for 21st Century Skills standards for Information, Communication and Technology. This is shown because it helps students to communication/networking tools and social networks appropriately to access, manage, integrate, evaluate and create information to successfully function in a knowledge economy. Also it applies a fundamental understanding of the ethical/legal issues surrounding the access and use of information technologies.I think this is a good way for students to learn from eachother which allows students to share ideas. I would use this type of program in my classroom to help students grow and learn with different projects through the economy.

It is important for students to be able to understand information they are learning and be able to refer it to other things. The power point magazine lesson refers to the 21st century skills by utilizing the most appropriate media creation tools, characteristics and conventions. I feel like this would be a good lesson to teach as a teacher because it allows students to reflect on what they learned by using tools.

I think students are able to gather information and learning from it like deconstructing Arnold in the power point lesson. The 21st century reflects on how to apply a fundamental understanding of the ethical/legal issues surrounding the access and use of media. This is a great way to teach student through other people so that they can visually see how others are through education.

Today in class we created a wordle about web 2.0. We posted the wordle to facebook and also uploaded them to our blog. This activity would be helpful when I become a teacher to measure the students success over a certain topic. The learning skills that relate best to this assignment would be that it use Systems thinking
Analyze how parts of a whole interact with each other to produce overall outcomes in complex systems. This assignement allows students to visually produce what they learned and share with other students.

Day 13 3/2/2010
Today in class we learned to book mark important pages to our blackboard. This helps organize important links to websites to help find them easier and locate thins quicker. By adding different book marks helped the class meet the learning standard of applying Technology Effectively. THis also allowed students to use technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate and communicate information. Also we emailed two nouns and adjatives about web 2.0 to our professor. I finally was able to get caught up and post my power point presentation.

Collaborative story writing helps students build many skills in writing. By collaborating before writing students can stop and analyze the subject. This also gives students the chance to discuss the topic with others, which informs them better and allows them to share and gain ideas. This topic is related to life and career skills because it allows students to interact effectively with others. This allows students to know when it is appropriate to listen and when to speak. It also allows students to conduct themselves in a respectable, professional manner.
Collaborative story writing helps students build many skills through learning and innovation skills. The learning and innovation skill that relates to collaborative writing skills is working creatively with others. By working creatively with others helps develop, implement and communicate new ideas to others effectively. It also allows students to be open and responsive to new and diverse perspectives; incorporate group input and feedback into the work. It can demonstrate originality and inventiveness in work and understand the real world limits to adopting new ideas. Lastly it allows students to view failure as an opportunity to learn; understand that creativity and innovation is a long-term, cyclical process of small successes and frequent mistakes. All of these things are a process that help student understand, and think more about writing.

Day 12 2/25/2010
In class we did collaberative story writing with 5th graders. I made a comment to my indians story which was very interesting. We also used Hypermedia quiz, which helps students build life skills in many ways. When students take the quiz it allows them to Monitor, define, prioritize and complete tasks without direct oversight. So the skill that is related to the life and career skills is working independently. I think this would be a good lesson for students to be able to know how to use quizzes such as hypermedia so that they are able to be successful when tested on information they are taught.

Day 11 2/ 23/2010
In class today we got caught up on our digital stories. After the class got caught up from last week we commented on our indians stories. This assignment related to the life an career skills as far as it allowed us to Incorporate feedback effectively. I found this interesting that students can learn from eachother just as well as they can from a teacher. This is a task I would consider valuable because sometimes students learn from eachother better. I would use a story blog assignment in the future so that students can collaberate and learn togehter.

Today in class we discussed the photo stories we have individualy been working on. Due to the weather I was absent. My photo story is complete and well under the way of posting!!

Day 7
One activity that I have done out side of school that relates to a standard was making flash cards for studying notes. I think this relates to 1-a. This standard promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. I feel like by making flash cards to study with allows all of these things to occur through learning and studying a topic.
Day 6
An activity I have done that meets a ISTE Net's requirement would be 5-D. This standard contributes to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community. My activity was to teach students how to make a animal from a book we read aloud during class. This activity not only required listening skills but also to follow directions as a group.

Day 5 2/2/2010
By using Google forms, we were able to create numerous questions. After creating the questions and selecting ways for others to answer we posted the questions to our blogs. Classmates that follow our blogs then answered the questions created. After reviewing the answers we then used a web site to build a graph that we also posted to our blogs. The ISTE net that related to this activity was 3-D. This shows that students and teachers model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning. I felt this was an affective activity I would use for my future classroom. This is a good way to answer questions and create test or quizzes for students. Also the graph allows visual learners to compare and learn by viewing the information that way.

Day 4 1/28/2010
Today in class we joined a discussion group as a class on Facebook which is refered to as Web 2.0 and Schools - Discussion . The link discussion allowed the class to voice their opinion in informal language and their digital communications skills. I think this was a very unique question to ask a college class, considering majority of us use digital skills daily. The responses were all very simular through the discussion board. This topic relates to the ISTE nets 3-B, which means people/students collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation. Facebook is a social network that allows member to use digital tools, and resources to communicate. I would consider using a lesson like this in a classroom with older students maybe to discussion an important argumentive topic to see the different view point to discuss.

Day 3 1/26/2010
Classroom 2.0 is very handy in the fact students are able to access and learn from other people who are in the same situation or have experienced. I personally learn well from others, so this website offers alot of helpful information to me. By reading other peoples input on situation helps me think more about a topic and can sometimes have a positive affect on the way I feel about an issue. This goes in relation to the ISTE nets 1-D. This shows that the model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.Collaberating with other students and colleagues is going to be very helpful in growing into a better learner.
Day 2 1/26/2010
By using google documents I was able to create a resume. I found that this document was very helpful do to the sense that this is an application that will one day come in handy when I apply for a job. This task applied to the ISTE nets 1-B. This means that students engage in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. This is a good lesson plan because it allows students to use technology to help create something for a real life situation. I would use this same lesson plan if I were a teacher, becuase I found it very helpful, and I feel that it is something importatnt students should learn. To get a professional resume created can tend to be expensive. Also when students are able to create their own resumes they will have a quicker, cheap way of applying for jobs.
Day 1 1/26/ 2010
Today in class we discussed how the ISTE Net related to the blogs that have been created. I feel like after doing the readings, and posting blogs allows a group discussion to occur. This also promotes 3-B. Through 3-B students collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation. During class we discussed a wordle, Which allowed students to collaberate over a topic. Therefore the blog allows all of these people to communicate through one area, to discuss a certain topic.

Welcome....
My name is Brittney Humphrey, and I am currently a sophomore at Fairmont State University. In my spare time I practice with the competitive cheerleading team at Fairmont State. I plan on majoring in Family and Consmuer Science, and becoming a teacher. I hope everyone has a great semester!
